Prof Angela Knox
Professor of Management
Angela Knox is a Professor of Management at the University of Sydney and an Honorary Professor at the University of Warwick. She is motivated to improve understanding of job quality and better inform policy-making by exploring what ‘good work’ is, why it matters, and how to create it.
She is an internationally renowned scholar, translational researcher and prolific public commentator on job quality, precarious work, and skills and migration. Her research primarily focuses on understanding how the quality of jobs impacts workers to improve worker well-being and performance, and subsequently enhance outcomes for organisations and economies.
Angie co-edited Job Quality in Australia and has published over 30 academic journal articles. Her work has appeared in the top international journals in her field, including Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal, Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society, and Work, Employment and Society. She is an Editor of Work, Employment and Society and an Editorial Board Member of Human Relations.
Angie has received numerous research grants, including funding from the Australian Research Council and the Institute of Social Sciences. She regularly conducts commissioned research, and she is an invited advisory group member of the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council-funded Renewing Work Advisory Group of Experts (ReWAGE) tasked with improving the future world of work.
Angie’s research has been used to benefit workers and workplaces by numerous organisations including the Australian Senate, Fair Work Commission, Productivity Commission, Qantas, and Social Ventures Australia. In 2023, she was awarded a University of Sydney Research Accelerator (SOAR) Prize in recognition of her outstanding research.
